2.33 mile easy run

Just ran an easy 2.33 out to monroe mills and back. I'm still recovering my shins from the 4.50 on the bike trail. My time was an 18:03. I feel great, even after the longest run i've done yet, i felt like i could do it again. It's not my acid threshold thats holding me back, its my tendons on the front of my shin. I'm trying to find a new pair of shoes with enough toe end cushioning to protect them on the road. also i'm going to not tie my shoes as tight. The majority of the pain is in my right tendon, which is my kicking foot for soccer. makes sense.

4.50 miles on the bike trail

Today I ran exactly 4.50 miles on the bike trail. I ran from the entrance of the bike path in Howard, all the way to The Gambier entrance to the bike path. This was a fun run. I passed absolutely no one on the path, and the run through the country was so much fun. It was kind of cold outside but I eventually warmed up and felt pretty good. The only thing that was sore today was my ankles. I found a half marathon in kenyon on april 25th I believe. I'm seriously considering running this one instead because it's close to home and supports local organic farmers. It's called the earth day marathon and half marathon. I like this one because the majority of it is on the bike trail and it only costs thirty bucks. only time will tell which one im officially going to run though.

3.5 miles

just got back from a semi-dark run in the rain! it was so much fun because the rain felt great. I ran out to monroe mills and back, then around my street home. this was an easy run and i felt pretty good all throughout. my time was 23:13,the temperature was 50.7 degrees F, and my estimated calories burnt was 417. One thing i noticed was that im very tired during the day. After thinking about what could play into this, the most likely reason could be the amount of food im eating. Yes, I eat healthy, and I get enough sleep, but maybe I need to be eating more carbs, whole grains to be exact. Every morning i eat a small breakfast, trying to get some protein and carbs, and I have a small lunch. Athletes require energy which made me realize im worn out because i need to eat more. So from now on, i plan on adding some extra carbs and healthy fats at some point in my day.

solid 5 miles and some motivation

just got back from a 5 mile run. I really picked up my pace and i feel great. i ran up monroe mills to penlawn and then down around the golf course, back down floralwood and around my street home. this is the longest run i have done yet. My body felt pretty good, i controlled my heart rate and my legs felt good for the most part. I recently have been researching a u.s. olympic runner Ryan hall. He said that the best way to run is to perform outside of yourself. he also said that running is pain management. This really meant a lot to me because it shows that to be good at what you do, you have to fight the pain off and keep going harder than ever. I run by this principle now. When my legs are burning, my ankles are sore, and im running up a hill, I pick up the pace. I know it will pay off and make me a better runner. today was motivational for me. another thing i really enjoy is being in nature. I saw countless deer, and a large hawk just circling over the golf course. today wasnt the easiest run but I tried hard and had a visitor (colton nichols) pull up behind and hand me a water bottle. its really nice to have your friends there to support you like that. He saw me running and just drove down the road i was on and helped me pace faster. tomorrow will be a rest day or a weight training day.

3.77 miles

I just got back from a 3.77 mile run. I pushed my pace a little bit harder today. I ran up av drive to floral valley and around the fields up there, then back down av drive around my street to my house. It took exactly 30:01.13 to run it, and my estimated calories burnt was 813.4. I weighed myself after this run and i had lost two pounds. overall, I feel pretty good.

3 mile night run

I just got back from my first run since my rest day yesterday. I feel great! night running is my favorite. its so peaceful and serene. I could only see a little bit ahead of me, but in the distance i could see the sun just about to completely go over the horizon. What a relaxing run. I ran 3 miles. My body felt good, even on the hills. Hopefully tomorrow I can go to the bike trail and try to hit about 6 miles or so.

very light strength workout

Today I was very sore from running the last two days and decided it would be best to just lift some weights and focus on my core and upper body strength. After some research, I found that for runners, (especially distance runners) low weight and high repetition is most beneficial. I dont want to bulk up or gain mass, just truly have strength. So today, I cut back on everything I usually do in the weightroom by atleast 30 pounds on each machine. For example, I went from a 70 pound bicep curl, to a 30 pound curl. i also raised my reps from 10 to 20 and did 3 sets. I plan on incorporating this into my normal schedule, because I think it's very important to help me be a stronger runner. It's kind of funny how all of the "meatheads" look at me funny and act dominant because they're lifting more weight than me. It just makes them look stupid. That's my small rant. anyways, tomorrow I plan on having a rest day. I'm going to just stay off my feet and let things catch up for a run on friday.

3.8 miles with David

I just got back from a run with David. We ran out floralwood and up monroe and around the golf course taking apple valley drive back to my house. Overall i'd say it was an okay run. One problem that i ran into was my quads and my shins. Maybe i'm not used to running on the road and thats why i'm kind of sore. I know eventually i'll be over this problem and it wont discourage me from training. After two moderate days though, tomorrow is going to be a day in the weight room to work on my core strength and the rest of my upper body. I feel that training around here will be extremely beneficial by May, because all of the hills give you such a better workout.

First recorded run

so just a bit ago was my first run for my blog. I ran almost exactly 3 miles on some hilly roads near my house. It was almost dark by time i started but i had my reflector armband on and I felt pretty good. I decided before I follow an actual training program, i want to give myself a week or two to kind of condition and strength train a bit. The first mile my body felt good, but it took awhile for my breathing to catch up. A little bit after that I found a steady rhythm at a moderate pace. I felt good as i ran and kept speeding up a bit. near the end, the muscles on my shin started to feel a bit strained, but that quickly went away and I sprinted up the final hill home. my ipod died but if i had to guess the closest time it would be around 22 minutes. Overall I feel good and plan on running 3 or 4 miles tomorrow.

The story of it....

I'm an average athlete in highschool, playing soccer and running track, but the one thing that interests me a lot is running. After a season of track i realized how you can test your limits and hit that point where you just totally crash. I want to prove to myself, and others that i can run a 13.1 mile race in Columbus Ohio on May 1st 2010. I dont plan on getting too technical with things, i just want to train hard, eat right, and follow a good schedule. For the first time, i dont have a goal for finishing time, I just want to finish. I may run the race with a friend or two. later on i will post my training program.
Run like hell today, feel like hell tomorrow.
